In the past decade, there has been a significant rise in medical and mental health referrals for treating gender dysphoria. There is inadequate research to explain this increase in cases. In response, Gender Dysphoria Institute (GDI), originally established as the Institute for Comprehensive Gender Dysphoria Research (ICGDR), was formed to fill a gap of knowledge in gender dysphoria research that is vital for proper care.
OUR MISSION
To conduct, support, and communicate high-quality gender dysphoria research, and to advance a comprehensive understanding of the different types, trajectories, and outcomes associated with gender dysphoria.
OUR VISION
That all people will have access to evidence-based information about gender dysphoria that supports informed decision-making.
GDI makes important contributions to the incomplete library of gender dysphoria research, so medical and mental health professionals can provide appropriate care, patients and families can make informed medical decisions, and policymakers can enact sound policies.

-
We prioritize informed decision-making by conducting and publishing research and interacting with the media and the scientific and medical communities to expand the reach of our research.

-
We prioritize a commitment to quality research and information, rather than a predetermined point of view.
As a nonpartisan, nonprofit, independent organization, GDI adheres to the highest standards of free inquiry and rigor in the design, conduct and publication of our research. All decisions about the research process and communication of findings are made by the researchers conducting the study. Decisions on funding open access fees for research articles will be made by GDI. These decisions are wholly independent from funders, lobbyist groups or other outside organizations.
